Not for everybody, but I hope some one agrees with me

I finally got one these dreaded I-Pods that everyone is talking about. People make it sound like digital music is the end of the world. Metallica once said their songs were not on I-tunes because Metallica did not write songs, they wrote CD's. I have to agree with that statement. All of Metallica's CD's are perfect in the sense that they create an overall experience. The same could be said for many other bands. However while I was telling my girlfriend last week that I understood Metallica's descision not to put their songs on I-Tunes, Metallica we finalizing a deal with I-Tunes that would end the debate over Metallica on I-Tunes forever. They changed their minds. Well at least when you buy the whold CD on I-Tunes, which is what's best for everyone, you bonus tracks. Sure the bonus tracks are worthless, and I'm sure Metallica would admit that. They aren't big on Singles, and the B-sides usually suck (except the St Anger singles, Ramones covers rock) so anyone can understand, these bonus tracks are the same material that they would use for B-sides on any given single. But at least they tried to give an incentive to buy the whole album, I like that, because my opinion is that if you are a real fan of any song on the album, the rest of that album increses your experience.

I find I-Tunes dissapointing in many respects. I expected that I would be able to buy rare songs on there, but I can't. The only things that I can purchsase, for the most part, are things that common in any music store. I thought that I would find acoustic versions of songs, and B-sides from bands that I like. I found a few cool things, like Motley Crue singing with Chester Bennington on the song Home Sweet Home (that's pretty cool). Other than that everything I've found I could get in a music store, and then I'd have the CD to go with the so gs, and I think that would be better anyways. And certain studio recordings that I would like to a single song from, are unavailable. That means that I have to go out and buy the CD anyways. So i'm just saying that in most cases I prefer to buy the CD, but I thought I-tunes would have some cool stuff I couldn't get on a CD, but they don't have much. The sessions@aol, and the I-tunes exclusives are very Lackluster to say the least. And alot of songs from movie soundtracks and such are cut out from certain bands. Finally I found one song I really wanted, but I was told that I had to buy the whole album to get it. That makes I-Tunes a complete Paradox, since the purpose it's existence is to allow users to download "just the one song they like."

So I got me an I-Pod, man is it awesome. It's a 1 gig I-Pod nano, and it's black. I found that the selection of cases available for it suck, since you can't plug headphones in with any hard case on the market. At least not one that I've found. FM transmitters don't transmit as well as one would think, and now that there is a demand for the them, the prices start at $50 instead of $20 like they used to. And finailly I've discovered that 1 gig isn't as big as I thought it was. The first night I got it I copied all of my Metallica CD's, Korn, and my Gun's and Roses greatest hits, when I got the Error that it was full... I realized that the average Metallica CD was 75 megs, wow that's alot. I think I had some Staind on there too actually, but I deleted everything and started over. I copied just what was essential, and what I had bought from I-tunes, and sure enough, I couldn't fill it up. It turns out that it had more room than I thought it did when I was deleting everything. I had a live concert from LiveMetallica.com, and that it's self was 150 Megs. Of course that's gone now. In it's place I fit three CD's.

I hear that Chester Bennington is coming out with a new CD next year, and it will be solo, without Linkin Park. But also Linkin Park will come out with a new CD and he will be on it. I find that interesting. So that means next year I have to look out for Chester, Linkin Park, Metallica, and whatever else comes out. I may get the Supernova CD if Supernova doesn't suck. Jason Newstead seems kind of wierd on the TV show. But I like the music that all three rockers have brought to the table. I listened to Dave Navarro's new stuff last night. I don't think he's that good. Sorry to all of his fans, I mean no offense. I just didn't get it, but we'll see when (and if) they start playing it on the radio. I've been trying to expand my musical style lately, and I've been trying to find stuff on I-Tunes like Chevelle, and Tool (they aren't on there, guess i'm buying the CD). I realized that I like them both (Chevelle a little more). I've also gone back to my childhood, and I've been listening to Motley Crue. I got the 'If I die tomorrow" Single, and I realized that is an awesome song. I can remember being real little and thinking about how bad those kids must be to be smoking in the boys room. I've thought about checking out that new Def Leppard CD, with all of the cover songs, but I'm not sure yet. I don't recognize any of them. And I realize that alot of their stuff that I listened to as a kid, is somewhat girly (but I was never girly, I was just immature). We'll see, since I buy new Cd's all the time, I may run out of one's on my definate wishlist, and I may get that CD.

I guess that does it, sorry if this blog is boring to some people. But I like to talk, and even think, about music. Music is certainly a driving force in my life.
